The Royal City Court of the Moscow Region sentenced RusNews journalist Roman Ivanov to seven years in prison in the case of military fakes – Part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code (public dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of the Russian army and the activities of government agencies). The state prosecution asked that he be sentenced to eight years in a general regime colony.

As reported in Telegram channel RusNews, the basis for initiating a criminal case was posts on social networks. In particular, the journalist shared a UN report and an article by The New York Times about the Buche events.

RusNews distributes materials on its YouTube channel (250 thousand subscribers) and Telegram channel (24 thousand subscribers).

Roman Ivanov is not the first RusNews journalist to be sentenced to prison under an article about military fakes. In February 2023, a Barnaul court sentenced RusNews journalist Maria Ponomarenko to six years in a general regime colony. The grounds for initiating a criminal case were posts on social networks that spoke of an airstrike on a drama theater in Mariupol.
