The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) continues to fail to comply with the World Anti-Doping Code, reports press service World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). RUSADA was recognized not complying with the WADA code back in 2019.
The press release notes that WADA has implemented the recommendation of the independent Code Compliance Review Committee (CRC) and expanded the list of conditions that must be met by RUSADA to lift the restrictions. The tightening is due to the inconsistency of Russian legislation with the agency’s code. The contradictions were identified in September 2022 and have not been eliminated to date, the press service reports.
According to the committee’s recommendation, in connection with the newly identified violations, RUSADA representatives, in particular, are prohibited from holding any positions in the WADA structure, and Russia is deprived of the right to host international competitions on its territory.
WADA is currently assessing and monitoring RUSADA for compliance with all conditions contained in the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). At the same time, WADA emphasized that restrictions on RUSADA will not be lifted until the legislation of the Russian Federation complies with the World Anti-Doping Code.
On December 9, 2019, WADA declared RUSADA not in compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code. Later C.A.S. reduced The sentence for the Russian agency is up to two years and decided to count its term from December 16, 2020. Already at WADA notedthat there will be no automatic restoration of RUSADA’s rights. Despite the sanctions against the Russian agency, the Russian Federation remains obligated to pay contributions to WADA. On September 21, 2023, the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation announced its refusal to pay WADA’s contribution in the amount of $1.2 million. In the Ministry of Sports considerthat due to Russia’s withdrawal from the Council of Europe, the amount of the country’s contribution should decrease.
