The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) found meldonium in the samples of two players from the Tolpar youth hockey team, which is part of the Ufa club Salavat Yulaev. This was reported to the TASS agency in the press service of the Continental Hockey League.
“The KHL continues to implement the anti-doping program in the KHL, JHL and WHL in the 2022/23 season, and testing of league players is being implemented jointly with RUSADA. Two samples were taken from Tolpar players in February and five in March. At the moment, RUSADA has reported to the league about the discovery of meldonium in two samples,” the press service of the league said.
This season, Tolpar finished sixth in the Eastern Conference rankings. In the first round of the playoffs, the youth team beat the Steel Foxes club from Magnitogorsk (3:1 in the series).
Meldonium was placed on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s banned substance list in 2016. In the first months after that, almost 300 athletes from Russia tested positive for meldonium.
