Director General of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) Veronika Loginova announced on Wednesday that the investigation into the case of Olympic figure skating champion Kamila Valieva has been completed.
Valieva was suspected of violating anti-doping rules.
“The investigation is completed,” Loginova said.
According to her, now “the results processing department, in accordance with the established rules and procedures, is preparing the necessary documents for organizing hearings.”
Trimetazidine, a prohibited drug, was found in the athlete’s sample dated December 25.
On February 8, RUSADA imposed a temporary suspension on Valieva. The next day, the skater successfully challenged him in the independent disciplinary committee of RUSADA.
The decision was appealed by the International Olympic Committee, the World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Skating Union. Claims from these organizations have been filed with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
CAS did not satisfy them. Its decision stated that based on the extremely limited facts in this case and after reviewing the relevant legal issues, a provisional suspension could not be imposed on Valieva due to exceptional circumstances – the underage athlete is a “protected person” under the World Anti-Doping Code.
Kamila Valieva was allowed to participate in the Olympic individual figure skaters tournament. She placed 4th in the competition.
