On October 28-31, the Slava Metreveli Stadium in Sochi will host the Russian Rugby-7 Cup among men’s teams. 11 teams will take part in the tournament, including Krasnodar Bogatyrs.
VVA-Podmoskovye (Moscow Region), Yenisei-STM (Krasnoyarsk Territory), Zastava-7 (St. Petersburg), Lokomotiv-Penza, Lipetsk, Baltic Storm will also come to the Black Sea coast. (Kaliningrad region), “Taganiy Rog” (Rostov region), “Rostov”, UC VVS “VVA” (Voronezh region) and the national team of the Kursk region.
Bogatyri head coach spoke about the upcoming tournament Anton Levchenko.
– The Russian Cup is the most important start of the year for our team. We are very tuned in to it. First of all, it suits us according to age. In the Premier League in classic rugby and the Premier League in Olympic sevens rugby, we have to compete with very high-level athletes who are usually much older than us. Since our team has been updated by 80%, it is very difficult to compete with the giants. Players under the age of 23 participate in the Russian Cup in the “seven”. We have an average age of 19-20 years, which suits us better. It will be an exam for us, we will try to show what we are capable of. Shortly after the Cup, we will continue to play in the Russian championship in the “seven”. So far, only one round has been held in the summer – in Penza, we took 6th place among 12 participants. Two weeks after the Cup, the second round of the championship will be held in Sochi, and Bogatyrs will also play there.
