The United Engine Corporation (UEC) of Rostec presented a model of the promising SM-100 engine for the upgraded Yak-130M combat training aircraft at the Army-2023 international military-technical forum. About it reported in the company’s Telegram channel.
SM-100 is a development of the AI-222-25 base engine. The new engine will have improved performance with similar dimensions and weight, for example, the maximum thrust will increase by 20%, and the resource will double. The creators of the engine achieved this by increasing the compression ratio, installing a modern three-stage low-pressure compressor, introducing upgraded combustion chamber components and a turbine of increased reliability.
Now the low-pressure compressor and turbine are undergoing bench tests, and the combustion chamber is undergoing flight tests. The upgraded high-pressure compressor is also being prepared for testing, now smaller, lighter and cheaper to manufacture. Especially for the upgraded engine, a reinforced gearbox was created. It allows you to install a drive-generator, the rated power of which is twice as high as that of the basic version of the engine.
Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy General Director of Rostec, at the Army-2023 forum declaredthat the state corporation intends to multiply the production of Lancet kamikaze drones. “Lancets” are widely used by the Russian Armed Forces as part of a special operation in Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense regularly reports on the destruction of enemy equipment by such drones.
