Russian fishing vessels in the Pacific Ocean have not yet started fishing for saury, its entry into the Russian economic zone is unlikely, reported Rosrybolovstvo in its Telegram channel.
“Russian vessels have not started fishing for saury, and, as noted at the meeting, this year it is unlikely that saury will enter the Russian economic zone,” the report says.
In open waters, saury fishing is carried out by vessels from China, South Korea and Japan, with an increasing catch in mid-August amounting to 13,661 tons, the agency added. Also, the approaches of the Pacific squid to the South Kuril region have not yet been recorded.
According to the Federal Agency for Fishery, at the moment, the total catch of Ivasi sardine and mackerel was 87,700 tons (+0.5% compared to 2021), most of it was Ivasi sardine (62,200 tons).
The department noted that work is now underway in the Far Eastern territorial departments to expand the fishery, since “the volume of fish recommended by science for development is much larger and the current catch rate is not enough.”
