In general, the townspeople had not yet had time to buy livestock of “unknown origin” in the markets after the July permitting law, as the deadly danger of bird flu hung over the entire poultry industry of the country.

After all, if the process goes ahead, meat and eggs of poultry will be on the domestic market – not stuffed with disinfectant solutions and growth hormones. Most likely, such products will be more expensive than from a poultry farm, but they will be homemade and natural. The buyer himself will be able to make a choice – what to buy.

There have already been precedents with the elimination of competitors in our village. After large pig complexes with beef cattle appeared in the country, pigs were forbidden to be kept in personal subsidiary farms and even in peasant farmsteads. Officially, the producers feared, of course, not competition from private traders and farmers, but outbreaks of African swine fever, which could spread to large pigsties. Now we want to beat the chicken flu…

Everything seems to be logical here. We are being transferred to industrial food – albeit not very tasty, but relatively cheap (compared to farm products) and safe. No food poisoning or pathogens.

In poultry farming, we have achieved 100% saturation of the domestic market, the industry continues to steadily increase production volumes. For the first half of this year – by almost 6%. And why would anyone mess with chicken coops if everything can be bought in a store – for a relatively cheap (in relation to beef or lamb) price? Although, as you know, it does not stand still, according to forecasts for the second half of the year, chicken meat will rise in price by about 5%.

And it is best to forget about home-grown food, without any chemical enhancers and tasters, rely on the state, on industrial production.

But why then the law signed by Vladimir Putin just two months ago? The answer seemed obvious: in order to saturate the market with domestic products, bring down prices in stores so that the townspeople could independently provide themselves with food. In conditions of high food inflation, such measures do not seem redundant.

“The actions of our authorities defy simple logic,” says Vasily Melnichenko, a Ural farmer. – Did all the townspeople rush to keep chickens on their haciendas after the law was issued? They didn’t. Why, then, limit them in breeding?

What needs to be done to give impetus to private production?

– To begin with, to create a developed cooperation. I need to know who will buy surplus products from me, at what price, and whether veterinary assistance will be provided to my farm if necessary. And we have only half measures. It was forbidden to keep pigs in farmsteads, from which tens of thousands of peasants and their relatives in the city were fed. Now they seem to want to partially allow it – but at a distance of more than 30 kilometers from a large pig farm. So the piglets will have to be transported over the 31st kilometer?
