Rosprirodnadzor will conduct an unscheduled inspection of Chelyabinsk enterprises after complaints from local residents about smog. This was reported in Telegram channel department head Svetlana Radionova. According to her, experts recorded at least 26 excesses of harmful substances in the air of Chelyabinsk.
“Monitoring takes place daily, measurements are analyzed from the control points of the Chelyabinsk Electrometallurgical Plant (CHEMK). The department has already applied to the prosecutor’s office for permission to conduct an unscheduled inspection of the main pollutants,” Radionova wrote.
Chelyabinsk residents began to complain about smog in the city in early August. The Ministry of Ecology of the Chelyabinsk Region declaredthat the cause of the smog is natural fires in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. On August 9, due to thick fog, at least 10 flights from Yekaterinburg were delayed.
According to the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology (.pdf), only in 2020 in Chelyabinsk the volume of emissions increased by 13% compared to 2019. In the national environmental ranking public organization “Green Patrol” for the period of winter 2021-2022, the Chelyabinsk region took 80th place out of 85 subjects.
