In Russia, 17 cases of infection with COVID-19 variant EG.5 (Eris) have been identified. This is 0.24% of all infections from April to August. Rospotrebnadzor sees the possible risks of a wider spread of this variant of the coronavirus and notes its ability to “better evade previously developed immunity.”

The symptoms of the disease with the variant “Eris” are the same as those of others. These are cough, runny nose, fever, sore throat and chest tightness. In immunocompromised people and “some susceptible individuals”, the disease can lead to “more severe consequences”.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, Eris has been identified in 51 countries. The World Health Organization has added it to the list of SARS-CoV-2 variants under surveillance.
