The destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station did not affect the quality of drinking water in Crimea, the republican department of Rospotrebnadzor said. Since June 7, more than 100 samples have been taken from the distribution network of settlements in the Kherson region, the North Crimean Canal, surface water bodies in the flood zone, as well as bottom sediments, which did not reveal any deviations.
“Drinking water in the North Crimean Canal and off the coast of the Crimean peninsula complies with the normative indicators,” the supervisory authority clarified.
Recall that the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was destroyed on June 6. According to local authorities, up to 40,000 people ended up in the disaster zone. Several cities and towns were almost completely flooded.
After that, Crimea said that about 40 million cubic meters of water had been accumulated in the North Crimean Canal. The reservoirs of the peninsula, according to officials, are filled with drinking water by about 80%, more than 280 million cubic meters of water.
According to the head of the region Sergey Aksenov, Russian specialists are working on options for filling the North Crimean Canal with water from the Dnieper using pumps.
