Recently, cases of coronavirus among children have been recorded more often, said Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy Director for Research of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor Alexander Gorelov. However, according to him, on average, children began to endure the disease easier than before.
As Alexander Gorelov said, in 2020-2021, children accounted for 10-11% of cases, but now this figure has grown to 18%.
“In children, the disease most often occurs under the guise of a respiratory infection or in an asymptomatic form. We have noticed another positive moment in relation to children – with “omicron” so far in our clinic there has not been a single case of multi-inflammatory syndrome, although earlier this complication was noted quite often, ”the scientist explained in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
The number of children with post-COVID syndrome remained at the same level as before, said Alexey Gorelov. One or two symptoms of post-covid syndrome, according to him, still remain in about 30% of children.
On August 29, 46,857 cases of coronavirus infection were registered in Russia. In mid-August, the share of more contagious omicron variants (BA.4 and BA.5) in Russia increased to 38.86%. Rospotrebnadzor does not yet plan to introduce new restrictive measures against the backdrop of a growing incidence. However, Roszdravnadzor recommended resume vaccination in the regions.
