The orbit of the International Space Station (ISS) has been adjusted to avoid space debris. About it reported in the press service of Roskosmos.

“Today, the International Space Station’s orbit was adjusted using the engines of the Russian Zvezda service module to avoid a possible collision with space debris,” the report said.

The state corporation clarified that the Zvezda engines were turned on approximately at 18:00 Moscow time. After running for 21.5 seconds, the orbit altitude was reduced by 500 m. “Orbit parameters after correction: minimum altitude 414.37 km; the maximum is 434.59 km,” the press service added.

Roskosmos emphasized that this correction will not affect the docking with the Progress MS-24 transport cargo ship, which is due on August 25. The carrier rocket with Progress MS-24 was launched on August 23 from Baikonur.

The ISS was put into orbit in 1998. Astronauts from different countries work on the station, including Russia, the USA, Japan, Canada, Germany, etc. They carry out experiments that would not be possible on Earth, such as space exploration, research in the field of biology , physiology, etc. In mid-March, Roskosmos reported that during the entire flight of the station, 336 corrections were made to the height of its orbit (of which 34 were to avoid space debris).
