Roskosmos plans to create a satellite communications technology that will make it possible to call mobile phones without the use of subscriber equipment. This was stated by the executive director for advanced programs and science of Roscosmos, Alexander Bloshenko, during the Sphere congress.
“Today, there are many initiatives in the world related to trying to get direct access to a mobile phone from satellites and providing a direct communication channel without separate subscriber equipment … This year we are opening work on system design of the appearance of such a group,” he said (cit. according to RIA Novosti).
Bloshenko noted that direct satellite communication technologies currently allow only small amounts of data to be transmitted, including SMS messages.
April 13, 2022 Roscosmos created the new national operator of the satellite program “Sphere”, which will work in cooperation with domestic satellite operators – Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Space Communications” and “Gazprom space systems. “This will also make it possible to simultaneously cover all segments of the satellite communications market.
