Roskomnadzor will check the security of access to Russian services through Apple equipment

The Roskomnadzor (RKN) Monitoring and Control Center for the Public Communications Network (TsMU SSOP) will check gadgets from Apple and other foreign manufacturers in order to make sure that users have secure access to Russian digital services. “Internet services of the country’s digital economy should be based on basic network protocols, software libraries that implement them, guaranteeing the integrity, stability and security of both data and information, and the services themselves,” Roskomnadzor noted.
They explained that Internet services use network data transfer protocols, which “are mostly foreign developments.”
Earlier today, Vedomosti, with reference to the tender documentation posted on the public procurement portal, reportedthat subordinated to Roskomnadzor FSUE “Main Radio Frequency Center” (GRC) will purchase 54 devices for 2.3 million rubles.
In particular, the agency plans to purchase 16 iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 (four gadgets of each model), four more iPhone smartphones without model specification and four iPad tablets. FSUE also expects to receive 21 smartphones from other manufacturers, including Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung, Vivo and Oppo. GRCHTS will buy six more tablets from Huawei.
In June, the FSB informed about the disclosure of a US intelligence campaign using a virus on Apple mobile devices. In addition to Russian users, the special service also found a virus on the gadgets of foreign subscribers using SIM cards registered with diplomatic missions and embassies in Russia.
