Roskomnadzor has received 177 reports from companies about data leakage since the beginning of the year

Since the beginning of 2023, Russian companies have sent 177 notifications to Roskomnadzor about data leakage. Milos Wagner, Deputy Head of the Department, spoke about this at the Digital Industry of Industrial Russia (CIPR) conference.
According to him, after the relevant law came into force on September 1 and until the end of 2022, there were 70 such notifications.
“They [компании] seek to meet the needs of the state so that adequate response measures are developed,” clarified Wagner (TASS quote).
In Russia, from September 1, 2022, operators processing personal data must notify Roskomnadzor of leaks. According to amendments to the law “On Personal Data”, in the event of a data leak, the operator must report this to the department within 24 hours. Within three days, the company is obliged to conduct an investigation and report to Roskomnadzor on the reasons and perpetrators. The law also provides for notification of cross-border transfer of personal data. In this case, the new procedure began to work from March 1, 2023.
In May, Vedomosti wrote that in the first four months of 2023, there were 75 leaks from Russian commercial companies and government organizations. This is 1.5 times more than in the same period last year, when 49 leaks were recorded. Such data was given by the CEO of FACCT (former Group-IB in Russia and the CIS) Valery Baulin. Fraudsters try to sell stolen data or demand a ransom from companies.
