Roskomnadzor denies restrictions on TikTok’s work in Russia

Roskomnadzor does not restrict the operation of the TikTok Internet service in Russia. This statement was made by the department’s press service on Friday, November 3.
This comment followed the appearance on the Internet of messages about the resumption of TikTok in Russia.
In response to this, Roskomnadzor noted that it had not received any notifications from TikTok about the resumption of work in the Russian Federation, but they also did not take any action to limit the functioning of the service.
At the same time, a day earlier, the Tagansky Court in Moscow reported that TikTok faces new fines of up to 4 million rubles for refusing to remove prohibited content.
Since February 2021, Russia has had a law on self-control of social networks, according to which Internet platforms are required to independently identify and block prohibited information. TikTok is also included in the corresponding register.
Earlier it turned out that Russians began to spend three times more traffic on news services and 1.6 times more for messengers. The youngest group of subscribers (17-25 years old) among messengers prefers Telegram, where they consume 42% of all traffic (versus 18% on WhatsApp), and among social networks they spend the most mobile Internet on VK (44%). Respondents 50 years and older spend the most traffic on Viber and TikTok.
