The head of the situation center of Roshydromet, Yuri Varakin, shared his forecast for the development of spring floods in 2024. His words are quoted by the radio “TVNZ”

According to the expert, the flood situation will persist throughout the country until the beginning of summer.

“Because our Lena ends at the end of May-beginning of June, the lower Lena is north of Yakutsk. And so, if we talk about Central Russia, the Central Federal District, the Oka Basin, the Nizhny Novgorod Region, then this is the second ten days of April, that is, everything will be over by May,” he said.

Varakin predicts a peak in the next 10 days. The water will not go away quickly, it will remain for another week and a half.

The main flood is observed in the Orenburg region and the Altai Territory, and then the geography of floods will expand. After warming at the beginning of next week, the situation will worsen in the Kaluga, Samara and Novosibirsk regions. In the second decade, flooding of the floodplain in Mordovia is expected. Flooding also began on small rivers in the Novgorod and Leningrad regions. Then floods will begin on the Oka River in the Ryazan and Nizhny Novgorod regions.

Earlier it was reported that in the Orenburg region, more than 10 thousand houses and more than 18 thousand household plots were flooded due to a dam break.
