Rosfinmonitoring added Navalny’s lawyers to the list of extremists and terrorists

Rosfinmonitoring added to the list of persons involved in extremist activities or terrorism the lawyers of Alexei Navalny (included in the list of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring) – Vadim Kobzev, Alexey Liptser and Igor Sergunin. Information appeared on the department’s website.

Now banks servicing the accounts of these defenders will have to freeze their funds.

On October 11, a criminal case was opened against these defenders of Navalny (included in the register of extremists and terrorists). On October 13, Liptser, Kobzev and Sergunin were detained; before that, their homes were searched. Them presented charge of participation in an extremist community (Part 2 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code).

According to the investigation, the defenders, “using their status in providing legal assistance to gain access to the correctional facility, ensured regular transfer of information between the leaders, participants of the extremist community and A.A. Navalny, who thereby continued to carry out the functions of the leader and director of the extremist community in planning , preparation, creation of conditions and commission of extremist crimes.”

This community could presumably refer to the Anti-Corruption Foundation and Navalny’s Headquarters, which were recognized as extremist, liquidated and banned in the Russian Federation.

On November 13, the Moscow City Court recognized the legality of Liptser’s arrest, and on November 8 it confirmed the legality of Sergunin’s arrest. On November 20, the appellate court will consider the complaint of Kobzev’s lawyer against his detention.

Federal Chamber of Lawyers (FPA) called lawyers not to participate in strikes and political actions after the arrest of Navalny’s defenders.

Navalny located in places of deprivation of liberty since February 2021, when the court, at the request of the FSIN, replaced his suspended sentence in the Yves Rocher case from 2014 with a real one. After the verdict in March 2022 in the case of fraud and contempt of court, he was transferred to a maximum security colony in the Vladimir region. In total, taking into account the verdict in the case of creating and financing an extremist community, Navalny will have to serve a prison sentence of 19 years.
