Rosfinmonitoring included the press secretary of Meta (recognized as an extremist organization in the Russian Federation and banned) Andy Stone in the list of individuals and organizations in relation to which there is information about their involvement in extremist activities or terrorism.

Mr. Stone’s name appeared on the list on website departments on February 12, 2024.

In November 2023, the Basmanny Court of Moscow in absentia arrested Andy Stone in a criminal case of promoting terrorist activities (Part 2 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Meta’s press secretary has also been put on the international wanted list.

On March 11, 2022, Reuters, citing internal Meta correspondence, reported that the company decided not to temporarily stop the publication of calls for violence against the Russian military and authorities on its sites. On the same day, the Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR) opened a criminal case “in connection with illegal calls for murder and violence against Russian citizens by employees of the American company Meta.” The Investigative Committee then stated that it would give a legal assessment of the actions of Andy Stone and other employees of the corporation.
