Rosfinmonitoring added a 19-year-old activist from Karelia to the list of extremists

19-year-old Nikita Klyunya is vice-chairman of the national council of the Civil Alliance of Russia. He was detained on March 8 in the city of Sortavala, the next day the Petrozavodsk City Court arrested him for two months. The head of the alliance, Oleg Filatchev, reported that the Karelian activist was charged under Part 4 of Art. 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (assistance to terrorist activities). This article provides for a sentence of 15 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
According to Mr. Filatchev, the activist is charged with participation in the “sabotage on the railway” because “someone sent him instructions for making explosives in private messages.” The prosecution also relied “on the testimony of two witnesses who made a deal with the investigation and stated that Mr. Klyunya was allegedly the organizer of the acts incriminated to him,” told Oleg Filatchev, who called the accusations far-fetched.
