The Russian concern “Rosenergoatom” has announced its intention to replace American nuclear fuel at the Zaporozhye NPP with Russian. According to adviser to the head of the concern Renat Karchaa, Westinghouse’s nuclear fuel reserves will last for four years, but the station will stop using American fuel much earlier. He reported this to Interfax.
Earlier, CNN reported that the US Department of Energy sent a letter to Rosatom on March 17, warning of the presence at ZNPP of “nuclear technical data of American origin, subject to US government export controls.” The letter also states that unauthorized access to US technology subject to export control is a violation of US law.
