Roscosmos to build GLONASS station in Venezuela in 2023

In 2023, Roscosmos State Corporation plans to build and put into operation a GLONASS ground station in Venezuela, reported in the corporation’s Telegram channel.

Roscosmos clarified that the corresponding contract was signed at the beginning of the week with the Bolivarian Space Agency at the 16th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Venezuelan Commission.

“The station will improve the coordinate-time and accuracy characteristics of the GLONASS system both in the Western Hemisphere and on a global scale,” Roscosmos said in a statement. The state corporation added that consumers from Venezuela will receive a system free of charge “for the needs of land, sea and air transport, precision farming, monitoring the state of industrial and infrastructure facilities, and conducting scientific research.”
