“Roscosmos” published satellite image of the world’s largest iceberg, A23a. It is moving from the Weddell Sea to the Scotia Sea, where it may break up.

The photo was taken by the Russian hydrometeorological satellite Meteor-M. The footage shows how A23a enters the waters of the Southern Ocean, leaving the Weddell Sea. As Roscosmos clarifies, an iceberg covers 150 km in a month.

Iceberg A23a broke away from Antarctica back in 1986. In November, scientists from the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute reported that an iceberg had reached the clear waters of the Southern Ocean. It is expected to reach the Scotia Sea within a month, where it could be destroyed by wind, waves and warm waters.
