Roscosmos explained why the ISS orbit was changed

The ISS orbit has changed slightly. Its adjustment was carried out in order to “form ballistic conditions” before the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft flew to the station. The press service of Roscosmos reports this.
Now the average altitude of the station’s orbit has increased by 3.5 km. The ISS is 419.24 km away from Earth. They were lifted using the engines of a cargo ship. They only worked for a few minutes.
The launch of the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft is scheduled for September 15. They want to put it into orbit and dock with the station using a short circuit. According to preliminary calculations, everything will take a little more than three hours. Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub are flying to the ISS for a year. NASA astronaut Lauren O’Hara will return to Earth in the spring.
