Rosatom is working on the creation of a reserve power supply source for ZNPP

Rosatom specialists are starting to restore the outdoor switchgear of the Zaporizhzhya TPP in order to create a backup source of energy supply for the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the report says. message state corporations.

“Given the great importance of the energy supply reserve for the nuclear safety of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, especially in winter, we decided, despite the immediate threat to the lives of the personnel employed in these works, to proceed with the restoration of the open switchgear of the Zaporizhzhya TPP,” the message says.

Rosatom explained that the provision of external power supply is extremely important for ensuring the safety of nuclear power plants, since in the event of a failure in the power supply to the station, it remains only to rely on diesel generators. Rafael Grossi, Director General of the IAEA, repeatedly drew attention to this problem earlier.

Now the station is powered by two high-voltage lines from the Ukrainian side, which, as the events of recent weeks have shown, are often switched off at the same time. Russia has already attempted to restore a high-voltage switchgear near the Zaporizhzhya thermal power plant, but Ukraine each time responded to this with shelling.

“The way Kyiv behaves will clearly show the real attitude of the Ukrainian leadership to ensuring the nuclear safety of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant,” Rosatom concluded.

Since the beginning of the military special operation, the station has been shelled, in which Russia and Ukraine accuse each other. Active shelling of the Zaporizhzhya NPP by the Armed Forces of Ukraine resumed on November 19 and 20.
