A Romanian warship (minesweeper Locotenent Dimitrie Nicolescu) struck a mine near the port of Constanta in the Black Sea while trying to clear it. About it informs TASS with reference to the press service of the headquarters of the Romanian Navy.
The military headquarters noted that when the ship arrived in the sea area where the mine was located, the weather conditions worsened. It is specified that the wind increased to 10-12 meters per second, and the waves reached a height of 1.5-2 meters. The storm at sea was rated 4 points. Due to the worsening weather, the task could not be completed, they said at the headquarters.
“Although security measures were taken after dark, due to adverse weather conditions, a drifting sea mine hit the side of the ship,” the report said.
The hole was formed in the stern of the ship, there are no victims or injured, all 75 crew members are safe. At the same time, the minesweeper remained afloat, stressed at the headquarters of the Romanian Navy.
Since March, Romania has already cleared two mines that drifted in the zone of responsibility of the Romanian Navy. The first device was destroyed on March 28, 70 km from the coast of the Capu Midia training ground, the second – on July 31, a few kilometers from the coast opposite the village of Eforie.
