Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu called on Ukraine to recognize that the Moldovan language “does not exist.” This was reported in the press service of the Romanian Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, Aurescu met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who arrived in Bucharest to attend a meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
“Minister Aurescu recalled the repeated requests of the Romanian side to the Ukrainian side to recognize the absence of the so-called “Moldovan language,” the message says.
At the same time, in April 2021, Kyiv recognized the identity of the Romanian and Moldovan languages.
In Moldova itself, both Romanian and Moldovan are enshrined in the country’s constitution as a state language.
