“He is now conscious, then falls into a deep sleep”

For the third month now, the well-known figure skater, Olympic champion Roman Kostomarov, who fell ill with a severe form of pneumonia in January, has been in the intensive care unit of the Kommunarka hospital. Literally recently, after experienced and very serious operations to amputate both feet, legs and right hand, he regained consciousness. Even asked for ice cream! But the left hand began to turn black – that is, gangrene continues. And just the other day, doctors had to amputate the fingers on this hand. Here is what has become known to date about the physical and mental state of Roman.

“The amputation of the fingers was necessary because they began to turn black, which meant that the process of gangrene had begun in the hand,” a source in the hospital told MK. – In this case, every hour, minute is important, this process is ongoing and could soon go to the entire brush. Why is this happening? Any physician will answer – the lungs do not work in full, oxygen is not delivered to the vessels, and so on. Kostomarov already has a lot of reasons that give rise to such a result. He survived so many surgeries and amputations! If the process goes further (doctors are constantly monitoring it), then the patient will be prepared urgently for the amputation of the entire left hand. It can happen at any time”

But, as we have learned, the skater is currently breathing on his own, he was turned off from the ventilator. His condition is assessed as stable.

“He is either conscious or falls into a deep sleep, because he receives, to put it more clearly, a lot of painkillers and sedatives,” the source clarified to MK. – But when he wakes up, he eats on his own, that is, not through a tube in the trachea. More precisely, he is fed by his wife, who is constantly nearby, or by a nurse. But he behaves when he is conscious, sometimes aggressively. His mental, moral state, no matter how the athlete is reassured, is on the verge. A person understands everything, understands what is happening to him … Yes, it is very, very difficult for him in all respects.
