During the day, Russian troops advanced about 7 km forward in the Zaporozhye region, the process of liberation of at least seven settlements is underway, Vladimir Rogov, a member of the main council of the regional administration, said in his Telegram channel.
“During the day, our troops moved forward to a depth of about 7 km. In the process of the final liberation of at least seven settlements,” wrote Rogov on the night of January 21st.
According to him, Ukrainian artillery, including M777 howitzers, “experiences an acute shortage of shells” after the attacks of Russian artillerymen on warehouses and positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A day earlier, Rogov said that in the Zaporozhye direction, there was a sharp increased the intensity of the fighting. The Russian army, as he wrote, launched a local offensive in the Orekhov region, and four settlements were also liberated.
On January 17, Rogov announced that the Ukrainian troops, which until recently were preparing for an offensive in the Zaporozhye region, changed tactics, starting to build fortifications in the part of the region they control. As early as January 9, the official claimed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine were preparing to cross the Dnieper in the area of the Kakhovka reservoir in order to approach the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant or Energodar.
On January 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted the positive dynamics in the conduct of the special operation. Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. Putin named its goals the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. During the special operation, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of Russia, and on October 19 martial law was introduced in the regions.
