Olympic champion, former State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina said that she is not interested in watching the Russian Grand Prix in figure skating, because she believes the scale of this sporting event is not significant enough.
“I don’t watch the Housing Office championship,” – stated Rodnina to Sport Express.
She recalled that she participated in ten world championships and three Olympics.
“There is no interest in watching the Grand Prix, where there are only Russians,” the champion added.
In a conversation with “Rise” Rodnina stated, that her attitude towards the national championship has always been: “I’m really not interested in this, without any sentiment.” She noted that she didn’t always watch international competitions.
Rodnina expressed hope that Russian figure skaters will compete at the next Olympics and that everyone supports them. However, the former athlete does not see any great prospects.
“And now I feel sorry for the guys. This is what they are preparing for?” Rodnina added. “Yes, we support them <...> But, in general, you can already feel the overeating of figure skating.”
