The press service of the Volgograd administration in its official telegram channel reported that the road signs “Volgograd” at all main entrances to the city on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the defeat of the Nazi troops by the Soviet troops in the Battle of Stalingrad were temporarily replaced with signs “Stalingrad”.
The publication notes that the corresponding decision on the temporary renaming of the city to Stalingrad was made by the Volgograd City Duma back in 2013, and in accordance with it, the name “hero city of Stalingrad” is established as a symbol of the city and is used along with the “hero city of Volgograd” .
As noted in the press service of the city administration, nine days a year, in memory of the heroic past of Volgograd, they return the name under which it entered world history as a city that rebuffed the fascist invaders.
