Russian racer Sergey Karyakin is not allowed to participate in the Dakar rally without a written statement condemning the special operation. This was announced by the athlete himself, who is the only representative of Russia who won and became a prize-winner in the most difficult Dakar rally marathon in the world in two categories.
We are talking about the rally-raid “Dakar” in Saudi Arabia. Competitions are scheduled from December 31 to January 15. As Karyakin noted, the FIA presented such a requirement not only to him, but to all Russian athletes who participate in competitions under the auspices of the federation.
According to Karyakin, earlier the FIA ”shouted the loudest about the lack of politics in sports, but in reality there is a policy of double standards.”
The athlete added that he was offered to sign a document stating that he does not support the president, the special operation and considers Russia’s actions “destructive”.
“We are trying to push through so that the paper is canceled. It is contrary to competition,” Karyakin said, noting that lawyers are dealing with the issue, other teams are helping, there is personal communication with the organizers.
