An informed source said that General Viktor Afzalov, Chief of the General Staff of the Aerospace Forces, was appointed acting Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces instead of Sergei Surovikin.
Recall that earlier RBC, citing its own sources, reported that Army General Sergei Surovikin was relieved of his post. It is clarified that this happened due to the transition to another job. The publication added that Surovikin is currently on a short vacation.
“Former Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces Sergey Surovikin has been relieved of his post. Colonel-General Viktor Afzalov has been appointed acting commander-in-chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces,” the source said.
It is specified that earlier Afzalov already held the position of acting commander-in-chief of the VKS. This happened at the moment when Surovikin commanded the Joint Group of Troops and Forces in the zone of the special military operation.
