RFU approved the rules of the Cup of Russia on football

The Bureau of the Executive Committee of the Russian Football Union (RFU) approved regulations holding the Russian Football Cup. It will be played according to the Double Elimination system – a tournament with elimination after two defeats.

How will the Russian Cup be held:

• In competitions “Way RPL” 16 teams of the Russian Premier League will meet. They will be divided into four groups of four teams that will play two rounds in a round robin system. The two leaders of each group will advance to the RPL play-offs, the third-place finishers will go to the Way of the Regions play-off. These matches will take place from 31 August to 19 November.
• After that it will pass play-off RPL. Teams that lose in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals enter the “Path of Regions”. The matches will take place in February-May 2023.
• In competitions “The Way of the Regions” teams of the Second League and championship among amateur football teams will play six rounds of the cup system from one match. The four best teams get into the play-off “Path of Regions”.
• The matches will take place from August 17 to November 16, 2022.
• AT play-off “Path of regions” four winners of the first stage, four teams that took third places in the RPL Path groups and lost in the RPL play-off will get into it.
• The final will be held on June 11, 2023, its participants are the winners of the RPL play-off and the Path of Regions play-off.

The first match of the Russian Cup will take place on 16 August. The Moscow team from the Medialiga “Amkal” will play with the Krasnogorsk club “Zorkiy” from the Second League.
