According to radio station RFI, the Chiefs of Defense Staff of the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) will gather for an emergency meeting in Accra, the capital of Ghana, from 17 to 18 August.
Initially, it was assumed that this meeting was supposed to take place earlier, but Al-Arabiya TV channel announced that it was postponed. The main reason for the delay was the unpreparedness of the troops of a number of African countries. The organizers, based on the current situation, decided to revise the plan and take into account all aspects of preparation.
At the upcoming meeting, the military will discuss the critical situation in Niger. The ECOWAS organization does not recognize the power of the rebels and demands the return to office of the deposed President Mohamed Bazum. This session will consider possible intervention in Niger.
