This week, European Union (EU) Defense Ministers will be discussing a joint ammunition procurement plan for Ukraine. It is reported by Reuters. According to the agency, the plan will be approved at the summit of leaders before the end of the month.
One of the interlocutors of the agency stressed that by the end of this week, several European countries are going to sign a “project agreement”, and the first contracts will be agreed at the end of April 2023.
It is noted that high-ranking EU officials are currently pursuing the idea of purchasing artillery shells, and not weapons, since Kyiv has repeatedly designated this as a “particularly urgent need.”
Earlier, Spanish Foreign Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed hope that the EU countries would be able to agree on joint supplies of ammunition to Ukraine as part of military assistance.
