Reuters: The United States may transfer long-range missiles with cluster bombs to Ukraine

The administration of US President Joe Biden plans to make a decision to provide Ukraine with longer-range missiles equipped with cluster bombs, four senior US officials say.
According to Reuters, this decision could have a significant impact on the fighting in eastern Ukraine. Washington is actively considering the possibility of supplying one or both of the Army’s tactical missile systems – ATACMS, capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 306 km, and the GMLRS multiple launch rocket system with cluster bombs.
If the decision is approved, then these systems will be quickly delivered to Ukraine, which can strengthen the position of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Currently, the Ukrainian armed forces have 155mm artillery, the cluster shell of which can carry up to 48 rounds of ammunition. If ATACMS is supplied, this number could rise to around 300 bombs, while the GMLRS missile system is capable of dispersing up to 404 cluster munitions. This is a significant increase in the firepower of Ukrainian forces.
Two senior agency sources stressed that the Biden administration is seeking to strengthen the Ukrainian military at this “vital moment.” It is important to note that the decision to ship ATACMS and/or GMLRS systems has not yet been finalized and may be rejected in the future.
