Among Americans of both major political parties, support for arms supplies to Ukraine is falling, Reuters reports the results of its own poll conducted jointly with Ipsos.
“The two-day poll, which ended Wednesday, found that only 41% of respondents agreed with the statement that Washington “should give Ukraine weapons,” compared with 35% who disagreed and the rest were unsure,” the report said. .
In May, a similar poll found that 46% of Americans supported sending weapons, while 29% were against it and the rest were unsure, a Reuters report said.
Previously, the United States adopted a temporary (45-day) budget in which assistance to Ukraine was excluded, which made it possible to prevent the cessation of the work of government agencies due to lack of funding (shutdown).
The Pentagon informed the US Congress about the exhaustion of financial resources allocated to replace military equipment sent from the US to Ukraine. According to the letter, Pentagon Comptroller Michael McCord told House and Senate leaders that only $1.6 billion remained of the $25.9 billion Congress had appropriated to replenish US military reserves. These reserves include millions of artillery shells, missiles and other weapons that are critical to Ukraine’s defense.
The Pentagon said that without additional funding, the United States will be forced to delay or reduce the supply of air defense systems, ammunition and unmanned vehicles, which are currently considered critical and urgent.
