Reuters: EU approved a new tranche of military aid to Kyiv for 500 million euros

In addition, EU foreign ministers agreed to allocate 45 million euros for “non-lethal equipment” for the EU military training mission in Ukraine. Hungary approved the new tranche, but made it clear that it opposes new anti-Russian sanctions, in particular those that could limit cooperation between Budapest and Moscow in the field of nuclear energy.
Following consultations between the heads of defense ministries of NATO member countries on January 20 at the American Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany, the alliance agreed to provide Ukraine with an unprecedentedly large package of military assistance in terms of nomenclature, which, however, does not include German Leopard 2 tanks. and Lithuania urged German authorities urgently transfer tanks to Kyiv.
The possible sending of heavy tanks to Ukraine will have negative consequences, declared former press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. At the same time, according to him, the supply of weapons will not fundamentally change the situation, but they will “add problems” for Ukraine.
On January 20, it also became known that the United States send to Ukraine another $2.5 billion military aid package. As part of it, Washington will transfer to Kyiv 59 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, 590 missiles for TOW anti-tank missile systems installed on them, and 295,000 25 mm ammunition. The tranche also included eight M1097 Avenger anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs), 90 Stryker armored vehicles, additional ammunition for NASAMS and HIMARS, and 53 armored vehicles with enhanced mine protection of the MRAP class, etc. The Pentagon noted that since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine Washington’s military aid to Kyiv exceeded $26.7 billion.
