Record turnout
By statement Head of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Ella Pamfilova, the turnout in the presidential elections of the Russian Federation in 2024 became a record in the modern history of Russia. It amounted to 77.44% (87.1 million voters). Before this, the 70 percent mark was exceeded only once – in 1991.
The turnout at overseas sites was also significant. According to inconclusive data announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry, at least 372 thousand people voted. In the last elections, 474 thousand Russians voted abroad, but there were significantly more polling stations then – 401 versus 295.
The top Russian regions in terms of turnout are headed by Chechnya, the lowest figure is in the Komi Republic.
Final turnout on the federal platform DEG – 94%. This voting method was used by 4.4 million people in 28 regions. In Moscow, which uses its platform, almost 3.7 million people, or half of all voters, voted online.
The turnout among military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces was 99.8%. 100% turnout demonstrated polar explorers at all stations and scientific expedition vessels in the Arctic and Antarctic. In Moscow pre-trial detention centers, almost 100% voted, everyone who expressed a desire. Total in the FSIN system implemented 77 thousand people in custody and about 40 thousand people who have restrictions and prohibitions that prevent them from visiting polling stations have their right.
Outstanding results
After processing 100% of the protocols, Vladimir Putin scored 87.28% (76.3 million votes). He improved his last result by more than 10 percentage points, or 19.9 million votes.
Chechnya returned to first place in the top regions that provided the greatest support to the current president. The leader of 2018, Kabardino-Balkaria, is in fifth place. In addition, the top ten includes Crimea, Sevastopol and three out of four new regions. In the fourth, Kherson region, Vladimir Putin also received an impressive 88.12%, but for all participants in the top 10 his result was over 90%, and in Chechnya it was generally close to 100% (98.99%).
The regions with the least support for the current president can be called such only conditionally – only in four of them did it fall short of 80%.
Vladimir Putin was able to increase his 2018 result in all regions except those in which elections are being held for the first time. At the same time, many regions in which Vladimir Putin showed the weakest results in 2018 are now among the most distinguished (Jewish Autonomous Okrug, Yakutia, Khakassia, Primorsky and Altai Territories, Amur Region and Sakhalin).
On the federal platform of the DEG in all 28 regions, 87.41% of voters voted for Vladimir Putin. In online voting in Moscow, he received 89.1% of the votes.
The tendency to increase results is not visible only at foreign sites. According to preliminary data, 72.3% of voters abroad voted for Vladimir Putin compared to 85.02% in 2018.
Convenient candidates
The candidate from “New People” comes in second place abroad Vladislav Davankov (16.65%). He also has the second result based on voting results on the federal DEG platform (6.28%).
In general, according to the election results, the candidate from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation came second Nikolai Kharitonov (4.31% of votes). Representatives of the Communist Party have come second in all presidential elections since 1991, when Boris Yeltsin beat out the representative of the then CPSU Nikolai Ryzhkov. It should be added that Nikolai Kharitonov already competed with Vladimir Putin in the presidential race in 2004, then he lost with a more impressive result (13.69%).
New leader of the LDPR Leonid Slutsky could not repeat the election results of Vladimir Zhirinovsky. However, he was pleased with the result (3.2%), declaringthat in these elections “more than ever, the main thing is not victory, but participation.”
Price issue
Vladislav Davankov spent the most money on the election campaign. According to the latest data from the Central Election Commission, from its election fund spent RUB 368.19 million In terms of votes collected, the support of each voter cost him 100 rubles.
For Vladimir Putin, with commensurate expenses (316.75 million rubles spent), the votes cost significantly less than all other rivals. However, they will not remain in vain. Let us remind you that political parties are entitled to budget funding if their candidate receives more than 3% of the votes in the presidential election. By law it is 152 rubles. for every vote. Thus, all three of Vladimir Putin’s rivals will replenish party coffers by 400–500 million rubles.
