Citizens of Ukraine living in new regions of Russia need to obtain a Russian passport or a residence permit by the end of the year, otherwise residents may face expulsion, Senator from the Kherson region Konstantin Basyuk said in his Telegram channel.
Basyuk appealed to the Ukrainians who live in the Kherson region and other new subjects of the Russian Federation and have not formalized any official status. According to him, by the end of 2023 they need to decide on their legal status in the country, choosing between obtaining a Russian passport and a residence permit.
“If a foreign citizen does not obtain any status in Russia, then measures of administrative influence, including expulsion, may come into force against him,” wrote He.
Since October 2022, almost 1.5 million people from new regions have received Russian passports, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at the end of May at the open part of the strategic session on the integration of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions into Russia. Acting Governor of the Kherson region Vladimir Saldo in May also specified that about 150,000 people in the region received a Russian passport. In the Zaporizhia region, more than 250,000 passports had been issued by June, according to the Interior Ministry.
