Citizens residing in the territories of the DPR, LPR, as well as Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, at the time of their admission to the Russian Federation, will automatically receive Russian citizenship. This is stated in the treaties on the accession of new territories to Russia.

At the same time, an exception is made for persons who “within one month after this day will declare their desire to keep their existing citizenship and (or) their minor children or remain stateless.” This is mentioned on website Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation.

On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma draft constitutional laws on the admission of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the Russian Federation.

Earlier, the Constitutional Court of Russia approved documents on the admission of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions to Russia. State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that the lower house of parliament at a meeting on October 3 will consider draft constitutional laws on the admission of new subjects to the country, as well as on the ratification of relevant international treaties.
