Residents of developing countries look to the future more positively

As shown survey, conducted by the research company Romir together with Gallup International in 60 countries, the majority of respondents believe that political freedoms in the world are deteriorating, and economic opportunities are not enough. Nevertheless, the inhabitants of the Earth as a whole look positively on the future. In particular, 45% of respondents expect political freedoms in their countries to increase slightly or significantly over the next 25 years. 48% of respondents believe that economic conditions will improve. The share of pessimists on both points is more than two times smaller (19% and 23%, respectively).

According to the survey, the largest number of “optimists” live in developing countries. Thus, Vietnam (86% of respondents), Nigeria (80%), Sierra Leone and Indonesia (77% each) believe most in improving political freedoms. In the growth of economic opportunities – in Vietnam (97%), Kosovo and Nigeria (82% each), Côte d’Ivoire (81%). In Russia, less than half of the respondents count on positive political and economic development in the next quarter of a century. Nevertheless, on both counts, it overtakes such countries as Great Britain, Germany, France, Belgium, Sweden.
