Researcher to live underwater for 100 days to become ‘superhuman’

University of South Florida professor Joseph Dituri decided to spend 100 days underwater. He hopes not only to set a world record, but also to become a “superman”.

He informedthat during the experiment all the reactions of the body will be carefully recorded. The scientist is confident that his condition will improve due to increased pressure.

Dituri served in the US Navy for 28 years as a diver. Referring to previous studies, he claims that cells subjected to increased pressure double in five days. Therefore, the 55-year-old professor expects to increase his life expectancy and prevent diseases associated with aging.

He will live in Gilles’ 100-square-foot underwater cabin near Key Largo. The underwater hotel was built in 1986 and was originally a scientific laboratory. It was named after the French writer Jules Verne.

While underwater, Dituri will continue to lecture on biomedical engineering online. Specialists will perform psychosocial, physiological and medical tests, including blood tests, ultrasounds, electrocardiograms and stem cell tests.

After leaving the army, Dituri went to study at the University of Florida in order to learn more about traumatic brain injuries. Many of the professor’s colleagues received them during their service, and he decided to help them.

“I was well aware that hyperbaric pressure can increase cerebral blood flow and suggested that it could be used to treat traumatic brain injury,” the researcher explained. He conceded that hyperbaric pressure could be used to treat a wide range of ailments.
