Republicans nominate Steve Scalise for House Speaker

The Hill reports that Republicans have nominated Steve Scalise for the post of Speaker of the US House of Representatives.
The 58-year-old politician is the leader of the Republican majority in the House of Representatives.
The Speaker’s seat became vacant after Kevin McCarthy was removed from the post.
Speaker elections will take place later on Wednesday.
Let us recall that on June 14, 2017, Scalise was wounded by a terrorist who opposed Donald Trump and was under treatment almost until the end of September.
