Putin: Russia could contribute to resolving the conflict in the Middle East

Russia could make its contribution to the resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, stated President Vladimir Putin in an interview with the host of the inter-Arab channel Al-Ghad Amro Abd El-Hamid.

It is necessary to look for a way to end hostilities and return to the negotiation process, which should be acceptable to all parties, Putin said. He noted that Russia has stable business relations with Israel and friendly relations with Palestine.

“And Russia, in my opinion, could also make its contribution, its contribution to this settlement process. But this sharpness is such that, in my opinion, we don’t see anything like it anywhere,” Putin explained.

Putin noted that Russia’s position has always been clear and transparent and is well known to both sides of the conflict. “It is necessary to implement the previously adopted decisions of the UN Security Council until the creation of an independent sovereign Palestinian state, as this was envisaged during the creation of Israel itself,” the head of state noted.

The President called for refraining from harsh statements and, no matter what, not to offend the feelings of people involved in the conflict. Also, according to Putin, it is necessary to avoid casualties among the civilian population, actions must be selective. “And of course, it is necessary to avoid the expansion of the conflict at all costs, because if this happens, it will have an impact on the international situation as a whole, and not just on the region,” he added.

On the morning of October 7, the Palestinian group Hamas began military operations against Israel. The Israel Defense Forces responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, and the Israeli government announced that the country had entered a state of war.
