Repressions against ethnic Hungarians in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine are unacceptable and must be stopped immediately. This was stated by State Secretary for Bilateral Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Tamas Menzer.

The reason for the sharp reaction of Budapest was the events in Mukachevo. This city of Transcarpathia is home to a large community of ethnic Hungarians. Earlier, the city authorities removed the Hungarian flags, dismantled the inscriptions in the Hungarian language. In addition, the city administration fired the director of the Hungarian school Istvan Shink.

The Hungarian Foreign Ministry called on the Ukrainian authorities to immediately stop such actions. Also in Budapest, they recalled that if Kyiv wants to join the European Union, then it is necessary to abandon the practice of discrimination against national minorities.
