Media: after the terrorist attacks in Iran, the red flag of “revenge” was raised
In the Iranian city of Qom, sacred to Shiites, a red flag was raised over the Jamkaran Mosque, symbolizing revenge, RIA Novosti reports, citing a publication by the Iranian Fars agency.
Reportedly, the reason for this was a terrorist attack in the city of Kerman. Earlier it was reported that 2 explosive devices were planted and then detonated remotely near the cemetery. The terrorist attack occurred during funeral processions, when people gathered to honor the memory of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) General Qassem Soleimani. A total of 89 people were killed in the attack, including 12 children.
As noted, the same flag was raised in 2020 after the death of Soleimani. Iranian general and commander of the IRGC special forces, Qassem Soleimani, was killed in Iraq on the night of January 3, 2020 by a US Army strike. The Iranian army subsequently attacked American bases in Iraq.
As reported, one of the suicide bombers who carried out the explosions had Tajik citizenship. There were two suicide bombers. The nationality and identity of the second suicide bomber are currently unknown. It was also reported that a number of people related to the terrorist attack were detained.
A day of mourning was declared in Iran on Thursday; the country’s President Ebrahim Raisi postponed his visit to Turkey. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei promised a “cruel response” to the perpetrators and organizers of the bombings.
