Red Bull team driver, Dutch racing driver Max Verstappen became the Formula 1 champion for the third time in his career after finishing second in the sprint race of the Qatar Grand Prix.
The only driver who could have overtaken Verstappen in the overall standings, Red Bull’s Mexican Sergio Perez, was involved in an accident when he collided with Alpine’s Frenchman Esteban Ocon. The sprint was won by Australian racing driver Esteban Ocon from McLaren. His teammate, Briton Lando Norris, finished third.
From May to September, Verstappen scored a record ten victories in a row for Formula 1 and became almost unattainable in the standings.
At the end of September, after Verstappen’s victory at the Grand Prix in Japan, Red Bull secured victory in the Constructors’ Championship ahead of schedule, six races before the end of the World Championship.
